Fayetteville State University, also known as FSU, is a four-year, public, historical black university, and it is the second-oldest public institution of higher education in the state, located in Fayetteville, North Carolina. It was founded in 1867 by seven black citizens of Fayetteville, who are David A. Bryant, Nelson Carter, Andrew J. Chesnutt, George Grainger, Matthew Leary. Thomas Lomax, and Robert Simmons.
Today, the institution serves 39 undergraduate and 20 master’s degree programs in the arts and sciences, business and economics, and education, including a doctoral program in Educational Leadership.
Fayetteville State University's athletic teams are called The Broncos, and they compete in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) and NCAA Division II, in several sports, for both men and women. FSU's athletic teams has contributed to the college's athletic fame, by winning eleven CIAA championships in the recent years, most recently being the 2002 CIAA Football Championship. Their official colors are white and blue.
